Win 72 KIND Bars!

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Many folks often assume that snacking is a no-no. It’s snacking on the wrong foods that can get you into trouble. Snacking on healthy foods is essential to any eating plan. Here are the do’s and don’ts of healthy snacking, then enter to win a 72 bars (yes, 72!) from one of my favorite brands.

Benefits of Snacking
Eating frequently keeps your metabolism revved and blood sugar stable. It helps prevents you from arriving at meals famished, which can lead to gorging on super-sized portions.

The #1 rule to remember when snacking is: the food must provide your body with important nutrients and contribute to satiety—meaning, it won’t leave you hungry. Snacks are most appropriate when you have a long stretch of time before you next meal– over 5 hours. Aim for 150-200 calories per snack and at least 3-4 grams of both fiber and protein.

Planning ahead is crucial when it comes to snacking. Always travel with healthy snacks when you’re on the go and stash some in your desk drawer to prevent visits to the vending machine.

KIND Nuts & Spices
I’ve always been a fan of KIND bars and frequently recommend them as a healthy snack choice. I was excited to learn about their new line of Nuts & Spices bars. These gluten-free bars come in 4 flavors – Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan, Madagascar Vanilla Almond, and Cashew & Ginger Spice.

For these bars, KIND flavored used spices to add flavor (without many calories) instead of dried fruit. Each bar only contains 5 grams of sugar. This is much lower than many nutrition bars on the market, which can have close to 20 grams of sugar. Each bar also has between 5-7 grams of protein and fiber and contains around 200 calories. I’m also a fan of the ingredient list, which contains only pronounceable ingredients.

Enter to Win!
I am giving away to one lucky commenter a variety pack of the KIND Nuts & Spices that includes 72 bars! You’ll receive:

  • 24 Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt
  • 24 Madagascar Vanilla Almond
  • 12 Cashew & Ginger Spice
  • 12 Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan

Enter in the comments for your chance to win. Tell me “Which Nuts & Spices bar flavor is your favorite or are you most excited to try?”

The contest begins 10:30AM EST today, and ends on Thursday June 6, 2012 at 5:00 PM EST. You may only comment once to be considered and don’t need to purchase anything to win. Be sure to include your email address in the “Email” field when posting your comment so I can let you know if you won.  Only open to legal residents of 50 U.S. states, D.C. or Puerto Rico, and you must be at least 18 years of age to win. Oooh! I’ve been a fan of Kind bars since they first came out. They taste indulgent while, as you said, having pronounceable ingredients. As for which new bar I’d like to try . . . I’d say it’s a toss-up between the Dark Chocolate w/Sea Salt (I am a HUGE sweet ‘n’ salty fan) or the Cashew Ginger one – I am both a cashew and a ginger junky . . . this’d be right up my alley!

Sara P. Says:

Dark chocolate anything!

Erin P Says:

I purchased both the Sea Salt and the Vanilla flavors last week to put in my home-packed “gluten-free-to-go” meals. I haven’t gone anywhere yet, so I haven’t tried them, but they look amazing!

Kimberly Says:

The real dilemma is that I want to taste them ALL! I’m literally salivating from these mouth-watering creative combos. And the fact that they qualify as a healthy snack, well that is KIND and I’ll be wholly satiated.

Thanks Toby – fun contest!

Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan sounds amazing– reminds me of my stepdad’s family and their down South comfort food… pecan pie with chocolate chips! Only this is much better for you! 🙂

Keri Doolittle Says:

Oooohh, I would LOVE to bring these to our golf charity event! The chocolate one sounds so good, heck, they all sound good!!

Lena Says:

I’m a little surprised at how good they all sound but I’d love to try the Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan the most. I’ve been reading how important different foods and spices are, cinnamon & nuts are right up there. I do love KIND bars already but the new ones sound great because they contain fiber and protein without a lot of calories. I share them with my Mom who is diabetic, put them in my husband’s lunch and give them to my sons instead of empty calories contained in most snacks. Even if I don’t win I’ll be looking for these new bars to try. I’ve been trying to eat healthier and think KIND bars help me to do that instead of reaching for the wrong foods. I am trying to eat smaller healthier foods in between meals to keep my energy up and try to increase my metabolism at the same time.

Jeff Says:

They all sound great but the Cashew & Ginger Spice is the most intriguing flavor.

Brenda Says:

Madagascar Vanilla Almond sounds very good!…They all sound tasty though, it’s hard to choose!

Heather Says:

Madagascar Vanilla Almond.or wait.. the Dark Chocolate Sea salt… ohh yummm..dark chocolate cinnamin pecan… ohhh I cant decide!!!!

Rachel Says:

I absolutely LOVE KIND bars, and seriously look forward to them as a snack or part of breakfast (apple from home, blueberry vanilla cashew kind bar – sold at starbucks! & a red eye). I don’t think I could ever get sick of KIND bars, especially that flavor. These new flavors do look pretty tempting though… maybe I need to incorporate a Dark Chocolate Nut & Sea Salt bar into my post dinner or workout routine?! I can’t wait to try them.

When I first had a KIND bar in college, I have never looked back to other “nutrition” bars — they simply can’t match up in taste, protein, fiber, and even packaging! Thank you KIND snacks, for your no so random acts of delicious-ness. I could rave about the bars all day, seriously.

Toby Amidor Says:
