Dietitian’s Networking Night: Over Glasses of Wine, Nuggets of Delicious InsightThursday, January 31, 2013

This past Wednesday I spent a remarkable evening at a registered dietitians (RD) networking night at Toby Amidor’s home. As a budding dietitian most of my exposure to practicing RD’s was in the classroom. That night I got to hear first hand where their paths had taken them.
Wine flowed while we chatted around Toby’s grand kitchen island and nibbled on different plates and dishes that everyone had brought. There were platters of veggies and dips- but there were homemade indulgences too of s’mores bars, thumbprint cookies, toasted coconut marshmallows and brownies. These ladies know how to party!
I learned about working in a hospital setting and how rewarding that was to Stephanie Perruzza. Stacey Jackson shared her full schedule and how she balances her in, and out of, the store work as a supermarket dietitian and co-president elect of the Westchester Rockland Dietetic Association. Mary Opfer, one of my past classmates, is now teaching at Lehman College and branching out into restaurant menu analysis. One of my best chats was with Zipporah, Toby’s Mom, who shared with me some of her experiences working with young Type II diabetics, and the impacts of the families.
It was exciting to meet so many dynamic, intelligent and passionate women. They were all mothers, wives, and girlfriend who balance their busy personal lives with the work they do. I commented to Jessica Levinson, owner of Nutritioulicious, about how impressed I was with the level of intensity and the amount of work that everyone does, and she commented, “And yet I feel like I still don’t do enough.”Filed under Ask Toby | Comments: 1
