31 Days of Healthy Eating: Tip 18 from Jennifer Vagios

Jennifer Vagios

Happy National Nutrition Month! Today’s tip comes from my friend and registered dietitian colleague Jennifer Vagios. Her yogi perspectives always inspire me — and her tip of the day is no different.

Be REAL-istic

There’s a chance that your current lifestyle is made up of years of patterns and habits. And since some are engrained, some are embedded, some from childhood, some from adulthood; you need to be REAL about what’s going to work for you. And sometimes it requires someone else to help you realize that. You are an individual for a reason. I believe in ditching the word diet. We’ve all started a diet only to fail at that diet and choose a new diet cause the last diet didn’t work. Think “no diet” and “eat well, for fuel, energy, sustenance and nutrition.” Instead of taking on the world, all or nothing, go big or get out approach to eating well; aim for small changes over time. Choose one goal, work on that, once you develop that new habit and pattern, then move onto the next. Most of my clients simply need to drink more water! I sound like a broken record, but it’s a common issue. Small changes = profound results in the long run, and guess what, you’ve got this body for a long time. Honor it, love it and appreciate it. Then start changing things that will help you move towards feeling good.
