App Review: Whole Body Reboot

We all have a tough time making healthy decisions. Perhaps you can’t resist a cone of ice cream while taking the kids out or you need those boardwalk fried Oreos. But, don’t fret! Registered dietitian Manuel Villacorta, MS, RD, author of Whole Body Reboot, has a great new app that can help you keep your body in shape and shed those unwanted extra pounds.

What Is Whole Body Reboot?
This is a weight-loss app that is different than many others on the market. Instead of counting calories you focus on the types and amounts of food you’re eating, while concentrating on superfoods. These superfoods provide antioxidants and phytonutrients (aka nutrients that help prevent disease and keep your healthy). Whole Body Reboot is also based on seven simple principles:

  1. Eat variety
  2. Be colorful and anti-inflammatory foods
  3. Start food shopping
  4. Get cooking
  5. Eat up
  6. De-stress, breathe, sleep, repeat
  7. Exercise

How It Works
Once you download Whole Body Reboot from the app store (iPhone available now, and Android coming soon), you just follow the steps to complete your profile. The steps have accompanying videos to help answer any questions.

Since no two people are alike, the app ensures that personal flexibility is possible. First, you enter general information like height, weight, and gender.

Next, you add the goals you want to achieve, such as weight loss, gain, or maintain your weight. Then you are given a calorie limit, along with a timeframe on achieving your goal.

Next comes one of my favorite parts of the app, where you start to get to the nitty gritty of your meals and snacks. The app tells you the macronutrient ratios, or the amounts of carbohydrates, protein and fat you should eat. You can also choose them yourself, if you prefer. If you would like to eat a diet with more carbohydrates, or more protein, you have the option to choose that. Finally, based on the macronutrient distribution, a customized plan is provided. This plan consists of “Reboot Servings” or the number of servings of grains and starches, fruit, non-starchy vegetables, milk, meat or vegetarian protein, and fat you should eat per day. Now you’re ready to start eating and using your app!

The app allows you to input your daily physical activity, food consumption, and view your custom plan for easy reference. Not only does Whole Body Reboot provide step-by-step instructions on what types of food to eat to help you achieve your goals, it also has tons of cool features. There are tutorials with sample menus, recipes, an E-book, and you can even contact the app creator, Manuel, with any questions. You’ll even receive personal messages from Manuel to help you stay on track.

This app is easy-to-use, flexible, backed by science and proven to work to help shed unwanted pounds or maintain your current weight. You can also check out many success stories on Manuel’s website. Whole Body Reboot is a great app to have in that tool belt to construct the best you!
