It’s December and we all know what that means. Along with the constant replaying of holiday tunes and the long list of holiday gifts, comes an endless supply of desserts. But just because it’s the holiday season doesn’t mean you need to overload on sugar. This year, I’ve rounded up my favorite lightened-up holiday cookies from some very talented registered dietitians. In the spirit of the holiday season, I will share one cookie every day for twelve days. Make sure you check back for the next eleven days to get all of the recipes.

On the first day of the 12 Days of Holiday Cookies, I’m sharing a recipe that celebrates one of the most distinguishable holiday flavors–ginger. These Spicy Ginger Cookies from Chelsey Amer, RD of C It Nutritionally are a healthier take on a frosted ginger cookie. By using whole wheat flour, date sugar and flax seeds and omitting the icing, they are a Christmas cookie that you can eat all year round!
