3 Ways To Up Your Protein Game at Breakfast

Breakfast is important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but what you choose to put on your plate can set the tone for the rest of the day. Many typical breakfast foods are high in carbs and contain very little protein. However, research suggests that eating protein at breakfast can help increase satiety and aid with weight management. Breakfast is also an opportunity to get a healthy dose of some key vitamins and minerals your body requires.

One of my favorite go-to breakfast foods is yogurt (I did write The Greek Yogurt Kitchen after all!). Yogurt is a source of complete, high-quality protein, and contains calcium, vitamin D and potassium, which are three nutrients typically lacking in the American diet. Thanks to its high nutrient-density, a recent study found that yogurt consumers had a better quality diet than those who didn’t consume yogurt. Plus, regular yogurt consumption is associated with a healthier diet and lifestyle and less weight gain over time. Now that’s how I like to start my day!

3 Yogurt-Filled, Protein-Packed Breakfast Ideas

When it comes to yogurt I prefer Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Nonfat Yogurt with 15 grams protein and 0 grams of added sugar per 5.3 ounce single-serve container. Here are 3 of my favorite ways to enjoy it at breakfast.

Overnight Oats: Combine oats, Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Plain Greek Nonfat Yogurt, strawberries, fresh mint and a touch of 100% maple syrup in a covered bowl and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, top oats with sliced almonds and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

High-Protein Smoothie: Combine Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek Nonfat Yogurt, unsweetened frozen blueberries, nonfat milk and oat bran in a blender and blend until smooth.

Breakfast Parfait: Take a tall glass and alternate between a tablespoonful of Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Plain Greek Nonfat Yogurt and your favorite yogurt topping. Some of my favorites include chopped peanuts, unsweetened shredded coconut, sliced berries or banana, homemade granola, and pumpkin seeds.
