Question: What’s the point of the “Pour One More” campaign and who’s the next star wearing the milk mustache?
Answer: Getting a nutrition message across isn’t that easy, but the milk campaign has been around for 16 years and still going strong.
Today I was invited to hear my fellow colleague and registered dietitian Elisa Zied speak about the newest campaign called “Pour One More”. Based on research collected from national food consumption surveys, including NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), it was found that 85 percent of Americans fall short on their daily milk recommendations. The group who fell the shortest? Teenage girls. This is especially disturbing as milk is essential for proper bone growth and development.
This national campaign encourages everyone to pour one more glass every day in order to fulfill their dairy recommendations. Nutrients such as vitamin D, potassium, calcium (all found in milk) were found to be lacking in the American diet.
The New Face
Susan Sarandon was introduced as the newest celebrity to pose wearing the new milk mustache. An award-winning actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, her efforts have helped promote hunger relief efforts. In addition to the new ads, the “pour one more” campaign will be giving away more than one million servings of milk this month at WhyMilk.com. This is in partnership with Feeding America.
