02 Apr Giveaway: Fabulous Apron from Faux Gourmet!
Feeling fabulous while I cook gets me in the kitchen in a flash. Although I love my 4-inch sparkly heels, I just can’t wear them while I cook. When I came across Faux Gourmet, I simply loved their philosophy about “looking…and cooking the part.” They sell matching tutu-inspired aprons for both kids and adults. Once you’ve got the gear, it’s time for everyone to start cooking!
Cooking with Kids
Getting your kids cooking in the kitchen from an early age offers numerous benefits:
- It’s a fun way to bond with them.
- Entices kids’ senses and offers new challenges
- It gets kids excited about healthy eating
- It helps encourage kids to try new foods
Getting started
- At the market. Bring your kids along while grocery shopping. It’s a great way to get them excited about healthy eating and to get them involved in meal planning and preparation. I enjoy taking my kids to the local farmer’s market on Saturdays. They love chatting with the farmers about the produce they see.
- Prep Time. Assign individual age-appropriate tasks from to each child (if you’re cooking with several kids). Leave simple tasks like washing producte and fetching packages (from lower shelves) to younger kids while cracking eggs, mixing ingredients, and setting the table to the older ones. Be sure the tasks keep them involved during the entire process from shopping and planning to preparation and clean up. This will keep your kids stimulated, interested, and exposed to all the different stages of cooking.

Posted at 12:47h, 02 AprilI love involving my kids in every aspect of dinner from planouning to shopping to the clean up afterwards. Having two boys, I find it especially important that they have the skills to cook for their future wives one day in the (very very very) distant future 🙂 We love learning together how to make our dishes healthy and tasty at the same time. All of the kids get a kick out of it being their turn to choose what’s for dinner and my 6 year old is even getting good at loading the dishwasher without a fight! Including them in meals was one of tthe best mommy decisions I have ever made!

Posted at 21:43h, 02 AprilMe as a Nanny & Family Assistant I love to bake cookies, cupcakes and cakes. First because it gets them thrilled to learn and makes them see what goes in the recepes. They can make their own designs when they are decorating the cupcakes and cake. Another good thing about including kids in cooking its the timing issue, You teach them about the time and the clock and also the measuments, how to mesaure and how important it is. There favorite part is the decorating I believe and liking the bowls and spatulas. lol

Posted at 11:47h, 03 AprilI love making pizza braids with my kids. It gives them a chance to pick their own “toppings” and they get to play with their food as we braid the dough. They also love to make muffins, cookies or even help me chop soft vegetables. We cook together several times a week.

Posted at 22:57h, 03 AprilLike experimenting with kids new recipes also. Introduce them to eating food they do not know about. Surprise them with a new taste.
Like making a bean salad and adding feta cheese, adding Mangoes to salad.
Orzo Salad with watermelon and Pesto and tomatoes, fun food. that way they start experiencing new tastes.
Its fun to make a chart and show the progress and even give them little prices, rewards.
