25 Nov Holiday Mocktails for the Entire Family
I love using my cocktail shaker, but my kids always want in on the action. Since my son was a little boy, I started making him mocktails. I create simple, colorful concoctions and serve them in fun glasses. I now do this for all three of my kiddos, and it makes the holidays more memorable.
My youngest daughter’s favorite color is purple. Her bedroom is painted lavender, her winter jacket is a deep purple, and her comforter is a purple somewhere in between. It was only natural to make her a purple mocktail using 100% grape juice. Since 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes has always been part of our Friday night Shabbat ritual, I always have extra on hand.
Concord grapes are a true American fruit. Native to North America, it’s named after its birthplace of Concord, Massachusetts. Although harvest season for these purple beauties are only a few weeks in the fall, Welch’s grapes are picked at their peak and pressed into juice within 8 hours of harvesting so my family can enjoy the delicious flavor throughout the year.
According to the USDA’s 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, most folks don’t get the recommended dose of fruits and vegetables. In particular, folks don’t take in enough purple and blue hued fruits and veggies. Having 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes on my table ensures my kids are getting vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. The phytonutrients found in Concord grapes are the same as those found in red wine, which means my kids can now reap their benefits. Just ½ cup of 100% grape juice counts as a serving of fruit. Having a serving of 100% grape juice can help supplement my kid’s intake of fresh fruit and make sure they’re getting the recommended dose each day.
The Fun Factor
I like simple mocktails with 3 or 4 ingredients that don’t take long to whip up. What my kids love is the vessel in which I serve them in. I like to buy fun glasses like margarita glasses or tall goblets – my kids fight over who gets to drink it first! Since I have a hard time with margarita glasses (I always spill!), I place straws in each drink. It makes it easier for everyone all around. I also recommend using a tumbler to make the cocktails. My kids love shaking it and take turns being the mixologist!
Mocktails To Try
Prep time: 65 minutes
Chill time: 2 hours
Total time: 3 hours, 5 minutes
- 8 seedless purple grapes
- 1 cup 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes, divided
- ½ cup seltzer
Place grapes into a re-sealable container and pour in ½ cup 100% grape juice. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Remove grapes from refrigerator and thread 2 grapes onto each of 4 toothpicks. Place in a freezer-safe container for 2 hours until frozen.
Pour remaining ½ cup 100% grape juice into a martini glass. Add seltzer. Garnish mocktail with frozen grapes.

- 1 ½ tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
- ½ cup Welch’s 100% Grape Juice
- ¼ cup water
- 1 teaspoon fresh squeezed orange juice
In a small liquid measuring cup, put a strainer over the top and squeeze the orange juice and lime juice into the cup. Remove the strainer and mix in the water and grape juice. Mix well together and serve cold or over ice.
