20 Mar 31 Days of Healthy Eating: Tip 20 from Stacy Cluxton
It’s National Nutrition Month and the healthy eating tips keep on coming! Today’s tip is from Stacy Cluxton, who happens to also have a twin sister RD with whom she runs a nutrition consulting practice. Stacy’s tip discusses how to keep nutrition simple — yes, it’s possible– and here’s how.
Keep Nutrition Simple
I believe in eating small, frequent meals and snacks to keep metabolism active and to avoid getting overly hungry reducing the urge to overindulge during the next eating time. I think an easy way to keep nutrition simple is to meal plan for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. I like to use the MyPlate icon to incorporate all the food groups such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy and whole grains and try to avoid processed foods as much as possible.
When I meal plan for the week I am able to get a good detailed shopping list so I am prepared with ingredients of main dishes, side dishes and snacks. A little time planning can save a bunch of time scrounging for food and snacks when the busy week hits!
